Review | Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Insurgent (Divergent, #2)

Synopsis from Goodreads: In this sequel to the bestseller Divergent, war now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets emerge, and choices will become more irrevocable–and even more powerful. Transformed by her decisions, haunted by grief and guilt from those decisions, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.
Book two of the ‘Divergent Series’ delivered just as book one (Divergent) did. I loved it. It was fast-paced, and action packed. I really enjoyed getting an in-depth look at some of the factions we learned little about in book one. I also thought that Roth did a good job continuing the development of the characters we met in Divergent while also introducing us to new characters.
I can’t wait for book three in this series which does not come out until next year (2013). Insurgent has a cliff hanger ending. If you liked Hunger Games, you’ll probably really like this series as well.

Overall Rating: 4 of 5 stars false1/2

Parent’s guide: I would only give this book to mature teens and adults.

  • Sex: kissing throughout the books, some sensuality, it is implied that a couple has sex
  • Violence: quite a bit, teens using guns, people are shot and killed, drugs are used on people to make them hallucinate
  • Adult Themes: teens get tattoos and drink alcohol
