Review | Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George

Tuesdays at the Castle (Castle Glower #1)

Tuesdays at Castle Glower are Princess Celie’s favorite days. That’s because every Tuesday, the castle takes on a life of its own and magically adds, moves, or even completely gets rid of some of its rooms. No one is ever quite sure what the castle will do next, and no one really pays much attention to the castle’s rearranging because it’s been happening for as long as anyone can remember. Except for Princess Celie. Celie tries to take notice of everything the castle is doing. She spends hours mapping out the architectural changes and additions that happen.

When Celie’s parents, King and Queen Glower are ambushed and their fate is unknown, it becomes clear that Celie, her siblings, and the castle itself, may be in danger. But with her secret knowledge of the castle’s never-ending twists and turns, Celie may have just the advantage she needs to protect herself and the people she loves from those that are trying to over throw the kingdom and destroy her beloved castle’s special magic.

Dan and I picked Tuesdays at the Castle up while on a road trip. We had given two or three audiobooks a go, but nothing was really fitting our fancy. I finally picked up a hard copy of Tuesdays at the Castle and began reading it to myself. It wasn’t long before Dan noticed that I was enjoying the book and he asked that I start over and read it out loud. I complied. We both ended up enjoying the book very much. I especially found it to be a delightful, fun, quick read.

This would be a great book for middle grade readers.

I’m very excited for the sequel, Wednesdays in the Tower that releases next month on May 7th, 2013.
