Review | The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus #1) by Rick Riordan

The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus, #1)Riordan has done it again! So much so, that I think this was my favorite of all his books that I’ve read so far. It’s been a while since I’ve posted a book review despite having read a handful of books in the last little while. But after reading this gem of a book, I was totally motivated to post it and tell all of you to read it.

I had assumed that ‘The Lost Hero’ would be set years after Percy Jackson defeated Kronos in Manhattan and that characters from the Percy Jackson series would be few and far between, maybe adult counselors at Camp Half-Blood or something? Wrong! This book is set a year after the Titan war. And though we’ve been introduced to some new heroes, the old ones are present as well. Definitely taking a back seat as this story follows our new friends, but I loved still having all the familiar faces around as well. I think it’s quite possible that Percy and Annabeth will actually play a big role in this new series.

Riordan is definitely a formulaic writer and ‘The Lost Hero’ fits into that formula, but the thing that clinched it for me was his introduction of the Roman Gods. At first I was skeptical about how he was going to work the twist into the series without the reader saying, “Wait a minute, we’ve read five other books and have never heard about this before… I don’t think so.” But by the end of the book, I was sold and can’t wait to see what Riordan does with it. Loved it!
