Review | In the Garden by Caralyn Buehner and Brandon Dorman

In the GardenDescription: A couple weeks ago I started looking for some Easter picture books that were Christ-themed. I had seen a couple recommendations online and checked them all out at the library. I was fairly disappointed with all the books I found with the exception of In the Garden by Caralyn Buehner and Brandon Dorman.

Story: This story of Jesus’s crucifixion begins with the last supper and goes through to Christ’s resurrection. The story is not too wordy and so it lends itself well to a very young audience that has a short attention span. Scriptures from The Bible are incorporated and referenced on many of the pages.

Illustrations: The illustrations in In the Garden are beautiful. I absolutely love the cover picture. Having lived in Jerusalem for 5 months, I also appreciated some of the little, accurate details in some of the pictures depicting the city and landscape of Gethsemane. The only thing I found lacking in the illustrations was that I wished there was a more powerful resurrection picture in the book.
