Review | Savvy by Ingrid Law

Savvy (Savvy, #1)I picked this book up because it won the Newbery Honor Award. I didn’t have a clue what it was about when I started reading page one, but it didn’t take more than a few pages for me to be laughing out loud at some of the antics of Mississippi Beaumont, AKA ‘Mibs,’ who lives in Kansaska-Nebransas.

In the Beaumont family, there’s no telling what might happen when you hit adolescence. The Beaumonts like to call this adolescent surprise, ‘getting your Savvy.’ For one of Mibs brothers, Savvy looked like a hurricane, and for another, well… let’s just say lightning hit the same place more than twice. Now that it’s Mibs’s 13th Birthday, she’s just sure that something super special is about to happen to her. And happen it does, but certainly not how she expected it to.

This book is totally zany. I was laughing out loud all throughout it. I absolutely loved the characters and the absurd situations they got themselves into. I wasn’t crazy about the way in which things resolved themselves with Mibs’s father, but since it’s a children’s book, I can understand why the author did what she did.

I think this is a perfect tween and mom book. It will leave you with a warm heart and a big grin on your face. Hurry and go read Savvy by Ingrid Law!
